Andrew has started school

Today was the first day of school for Andrew's preschool. He is in a 5-day program this year from 8-11. He has been very excited to be in Mrs. Mossi's class and last year talked about her all the time whenever she helped out in his class. I can see why he was excited. She has a huge fish tank and she loves to do crafts and projects. They have a big "mail room" center where she plans to have the kids make stamps, learn about money, write letters to each other, etc. She is very creative and I think Andrew will love these activities.

Once or twice he has asked why he isn't in Kindergarten this year. The cut off for school is August 31st so he is too young to start this year. So he has a few friends who started Kindergarten but many who are still doing preschool. I didn't see any reason to rush him along - every teacher has always said its better to be the oldest than the youngest. And so many parents want their kids to be older starting school that he would be in with some kids who were already 6 for Kindergarten. There is such a huge difference between a 4 year old and a 6 year old. So he seems pretty happy with school and I am so glad to see him excited about it.

He also has two of his best friends in his class this year so I am sure they will have fun together.
